Welcome to the fifth annual
Hunger Games Walking Dead Games! Yep, Episode 12(entitled Remember) Season 5 of AMC’s The Walking Dead totally felt like an awesome new post-apocalyptic games show.
In this episode Rick’s (Andrew Lincoln) group enters
Woodbury the Alexandria Safe Zone and is met by the Governor Deanna (Tovah Feldshuh). Where theGovernor (David Morrissey) was not really an elected member of congress, it turns out Deanna actually is! Which means she could really be trying to save the world, or she could just be deluded…
Deanna video interviews Rick’s gang, which is completely fascinating because each of the group have their very own agendas and thoughts on what they would like to get out of Alexandria. While some are honest yet reserved, others are completely stark-faced lying.
And the Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire award goes to….. *drum roll*….. Carol (Melissa McBride)! Yep, while many others play down their attributes, Carol blatantly lies about how kick arse she is. Telling Deanna how much she loved her husband Ed (Adam Minarovich) and how she was so lucky to have Rick’s gang let her hang around on account of the fact she has no skills other than being a den mother. *high five* Totally called their bluff Carol! Totally not cool with the granny clothes though:
While Rick is fairly honest, Michonne (Danai Gurira) tends to keep quiet on just how lethal she is. Yet Deanna sees right through her and by the end of the episode both Rick and Michonne are on police duties.
Carl (Chandler Riggs) is concerned (along with Carol) that even if Alexandria isn’t a death trap waiting to happen, the group will become soft by being behind safe walls. As a result of this, it isn’t long before Carl is jumping the walls and roaming the great outdoors. He manages to bump into his dad while outside and even though Rick discovers someone has pinched his gun stash, they end up having some great father-son walker-killing bonding time together. Carl is also finding it hard to fit back in with the kids his age. Except for that broody-just walked-in-off-the-street chick who sneaks out of Alexandria all the time…
The award for Most Honest Yet Most Unwashed goes to….. Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus). Daryl seems to have reverted back to caveman status in this episode and all we get is a series of antisocial grunts. And, yeah, he STILL hasn’t showered and all I kept thinking about in this episode was this meme:
Speaking of hygiene, everyone else has a shower and neatens themselves up. Rick shaves off his beard and suddenly he’s not smoking hot any more 😦 Thanks AMC for changing my opinion on man beards and then totally whipping the best one right out from underneath me!
Glenn (Steven Yeun) is called up to do a supplies run along with Tara (Alanna Masterson) and Noah (Tyler James Williams). Yeah, Glenn is still the go to guy when you need someone to do dangerous shit. Out on the run they all end up breaking the supply run rules set out by some arse wipe who is probably important and will certainly end up holding a grudge now that Tara stabbed his walker toy and Glenn ended up knocking him to his arse in front of mummy dearest.
All in all, this episode was one of my all time faves. We got to see just how much the group has grown into a family unit and just how tainted their world view really is. I loved seeing the way each and everyone of them struggled with both the distrust that a new group of people brings as well as their need to (perhaps) curb their wild and somewhat now feral ways. This is bought abruptly into the light right at the end of the episode when Rick says to Carol that they will basically stay in Alexandria for as long as it’s safe. If it then becomes unsafe, they will just take it over.
Also, just on a side note, I really do think Alexandria will be a safe haven for Rick’s group. HOWEVER, I do believe they are hiding something. My theory is that whoever attackedShirewilt is the secret Alexandria are keeping. I think they need an army like Rick’s group in order to protect them from that big bad.
